Class policy

This policy explains how private English lessons with English Teacher Online work. By booking lessons, you agree to this policy, our refund policy and our terms & conditions.

1. Free trial lesson

New students get one free 30-minute trial lesson, with no obligation to continue.
Please cancel or reschedule the trial at least 24 hours in advance. If you miss the trial or cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, any further trial lesson is charged at the full rate.

2. Payment

Lessons are billed monthly and must be paid in full before the first lesson of each month.
We accept Interac e-Transfer and credit card (processed securely by Stripe).
If payment has not been received, scheduled lessons are cancelled and count as missed.
Lessons are paused until any overdue payment is made. Repeated late payment may end the agreement.
Lessons are for the student who booked them only and cannot be shared with or given to another person.

3. Cancelling and rescheduling

Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before the lesson, by WhatsApp.
Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice count as taken and are deducted from your monthly lessons.
If you miss a lesson without telling us (a no-show), the lesson is lost and is not made up or refunded.
New times depend on the teacher's availability.
Real emergencies, such as a hospital visit or accident, are considered case by case.
Very frequent cancellations, even with enough notice, may lead us to end the agreement.

4. Carrying lessons over to the next month

Lessons cancelled with at least 24 hours' notice can be moved to the following month:

1 lesson per week: up to 1 lesson carried over per month.
2 lessons per week: up to 2 lessons carried over per month.

Carried-over lessons must be used in the following month or they expire. Late cancellations and no-shows cannot be carried over.

5. Lesson length and late arrival

Each lesson is 60 minutes and starts on time.
If you arrive late, the lesson still ends at the scheduled time, and there is no discount.
If you are running late, please message us on WhatsApp.
If you have not arrived or joined within 15 minutes without telling us, the lesson is cancelled and counts as a no-show.

6. Online lessons

Lessons take place on Zoom, Google Meet or WhatsApp video.
You are responsible for a stable internet connection and a working microphone and camera. Please join a few minutes early.
All lesson times are in Toronto time (Eastern Time) unless agreed otherwise.
Lessons lost to technical problems on the student's side are not refunded or automatically made up.
Please check WhatsApp and email regularly for lesson updates.

7. In-person lessons

In-person lessons take place at our downtown Toronto location, 123 Edward St, Suite 205.
The same cancellation and late-arrival rules apply.

8. If the teacher cancels

We will give at least 24 hours' notice whenever possible.
The lesson is rescheduled at a time that suits you. It is never deducted from your lessons and does not count toward your carry-over limit.

9. Recordings and confidentiality

Lessons may only be recorded if both the student and the teacher agree beforehand.
Recordings are for your personal review only and may not be shared or published.
Everything you share in lessons stays confidential.

10. Materials

All materials are included at no extra cost. Handouts, slides, exercises and digital content are the property of English Teacher Online and are licensed for your personal use only. Please do not copy, share or sell them without written permission.

11. Ending lessons

You can stop lessons at any time by giving at least 15 days' notice in writing (WhatsApp or email). See the refund policy for unused lessons.
We may pause or end lessons for non-payment, disrespectful behaviour, sharing lessons or materials, excessive cancellations or other breaches of this policy.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will tell you about important changes at least 15 days in advance by WhatsApp or email.
